Formula E CEO Invites Max Verstappen to Jeddah E-Prix After F1 2026 Criticism (2026)

Formula E's CEO, Jeff Dodds, has issued a playful challenge to Max Verstappen, inviting him to experience the electric series firsthand after the Red Bull driver's controversial comments about the upcoming 2026 Formula 1 cars.

Verstappen's recent remarks, which likened the new F1 cars to "Formula E on steroids," have sparked a friendly rivalry between the two racing series. Dodds, understanding Verstappen's traditionalist leanings, sent a cheeky invitation to the driver, suggesting he attend this weekend's Jeddah E-Prix instead of the F1 testing in Bahrain.

"I dropped Max a message, saying, 'Hey, if you're not enjoying the new F1 cars, why not come and try Formula E?'" Dodds explained. "We're just a stone's throw away in Jeddah, and I'd be happy to pick him up!"

While some interpreted Verstappen's comments as a slight against Formula E, Dodds sees it as an opportunity to showcase the electric series' unique appeal. "It's a great chance for us to show off our close, intense racing style and demonstrate our commitment to energy efficiency and management," he said.

But here's where it gets interesting: Dodds believes Verstappen would actually enjoy driving the upcoming Gen4 Formula E car, which boasts 800bhp and all-wheel drive. "With its raw power and instant acceleration, I think Max would love the Gen4 car," Dodds said. "It's a massive upgrade, and I'm confident it would provide an exhilarating experience for him."

Dodds understands Verstappen's frustration with the 2026 F1 rules, which increase the electrical contribution of the power unit while retaining the internal combustion engine. "It's a delicate balance between embracing new electric technology and retaining the legacy and history of F1," he explained. "In Formula E, we've optimized our racing format around electric power, but F1 is trying to find that balance between the old and the new."

So, will Verstappen take up Dodds' invitation? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: the friendly rivalry between these two racing series is sure to keep fans entertained and engaged.
